Dr. Liliana Arevalo was born in Bogotá Colombia. She received the Ph.D. degree in Electricity (special
attention to electrical discharges) and Phil. Lic. degree from Uppsala University, Sweden, in 2011 and
2010 respectively. She obtained the MSc degree on electrical engineering with emphasis on High
voltage technology at National University of Colombia and the bachelor’s degree in electrical
engineering, in 2005 and 2002 respectively.
Dr. Arévalo is author and co-author of more than 80 publications and more than 5 patents on high
voltage technology. Dr. Arevalo has been nominated 5 times to the award “Women in power systems
– Årets Kraftkvinna” in Sweden in the period between 2020 to 2024. She was conferred with the “IEC
1906 award” in 2016 for her contributions on insulation coordination in the IEC international
standards, and she was awarded two Young Scientist awards, one by the Scientific Committee of the
international Conference on Lightning Protection ICLP and the other by the European working party
on Static Electricity, in 2010 and 2009 respectively.
Actually, she is Senior Principal Specialist on electrical insulation at Hitachi Energy – HVDC and adjunct
senior lecturer at Uppsala University – Sweden. She is a member of IEC TC99, CENELEC TK99, IEEE 1407,
co-convenor of IEC TC42-JWG22 on atmospheric corrections and also convenor of CENELEC TK99 WG03
in insulation coordination for AC and HVDC applications and participates in various Cigré W.G. C4 and
D1.
